Our Craft

One artisan.
One bag.
Start to finish.

At Safari Leather, each bag is crafted entirely by one person. No assembly lines. No shortcuts. From cutting the hide to the final stitch, one artisan owns the process.

We source full-grain hides locally in Kenya, supporting tanneries and farming communities. It's not just a bag — it's an ecosystem of craftsmanship.

The Process

How a Safari bag is born

01

Hide Selection

Our master craftsman hand-selects each hide from Kenyan tanneries. We only use full-grain leather — the outermost layer where fibres are tightest, ensuring maximum strength and natural surface that develops beautiful patina.

02

Pattern & Cut

Every piece is cut by hand, not die-stamped. The artisan reads the leather, working around natural marks to ensure the strongest sections form stress points. Nothing is wasted.

03

Hand Stitching

We use hand-waxed linen thread and a saddle stitch — two needles, one thread, crossing through each hole. Unlike machine stitching, if one stitch breaks, the rest hold firm. Repairable for life.

Finishing & Signing

Edges are burnished by hand. Brass hardware fitted. Interior inspected. Finally, the artisan stamps their initials inside — when you craft something for 8+ hours, you sign your work.

The Patina Promise

Your bag at Year 5 looks
better than Day 1

Full-grain leather doesn't deteriorate — it transforms. Oils from your hands, sunlight, rain create a unique patina entirely yours. No two Safari bags age the same.
